An Inspiration for Good

Each year, the Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio selects a theme, a guiding light for our labors, and a reminder of what binds us together as Companions. This year, that theme is drawn directly from the Royal Arch Degree itself: “An Inspiration for Good.”

This phrase is far more than a motto; it is a charge. In the conferral of the Royal Arch Degree, we are reminded that our work as Companions extends beyond the walls of the Chapter room. We are called to be an inspiration for good among all mankind, to carry forth the lessons of the Craft into every aspect of our lives.

The Meaning of the Theme

To “inspire” is to breathe life into something, to awaken the spirit of others through our words, actions, and example. As Royal Arch Masons, we are not simply taught moral truths; we are entrusted with them and charged to put them into practice. The degrees of Capitular Masonry remind us that faith, perseverance, and brotherly love are not passive virtues. They are living principles that shape how we interact with our families, our communities, and our world.

When we embody these principles, in the quiet acts of kindness, in the service we render, and in the encouragement we offer, we fulfill that sacred charge: to be an inspiration for good.

A Call to Action

This year’s theme challenges every Companion to reflect on how he might inspire good in his own sphere of influence. It might mean mentoring a new member of your Chapter, volunteering within your community, or simply being the steady hand and calm voice that others can rely upon. Every action, no matter how small, ripples outward, inspiring others to do the same.

Let us remember that the measure of our labor is not found in titles or honors, but in the light we bring to others. When our Chapters stand as beacons of brotherhood, service, and virtue, we fulfill the very purpose for which our Order exists.

Carrying the Light Forward

As Companions across Ohio labor under the banner of “An Inspiration for Good,” may we renew our dedication to the Craft and to humanity. Let our Chapters be known not only for our rituals and traditions, but for our influence, for the lives we touch, the communities we strengthen, and the examples we set.

Let us each strive, in thought and deed, to live as true inspirations for good.
